Steeking and Crochet: March 13, 2018

Hold your breath, let’s steek! Guild member Victoria Lewin will talk about the ins and outs of taking a pair of scissors to your knitting (yes, you read that correctly). Steeking allows you to knit a piece in the round, and worry about making openings for your arms or a cardigan front later. New to steeking? Never heard of it? No worries! Victoria will share her experiences with steeking and hopefully encourage you to give it a try. She will cover the basics of yarn selection for best results, reinforcing your stitches before the big cut, and neat and tidy ways to finish the freshly snipped edge. Come learn about this often-feared, but really not so scary skill.

Our Vice-President, Kathryn, will talk about crocheting beyond stabilizing a steek, making a provisional cast-on or seaming a blanket. Crochet makes an excellent edging and decorative element for many types of knitting and is a beautiful craft on its own. Bring your hooks and some appropriate yarn to work along with Kathryn.
