Your programming team is very happy to announce present another very talented Canadian, Ilga Leja, will be our speaker. Ilga will tell us about her self-named technique, (and very aptly named), Kaleidoscope knitting, and just how she incorporates these elements - colour, shape, texture, movement, structure - into this very unique style.
In the presentation, Ilga will exhibit some of her works (some of which were on display in an art gallery), knit using these techniques, giving us an introduction on how we can incorporate some of the features, and elements of kaleidoscope knitting into our own projects.
Be sure to join us for this very interesting, and informative presentation!
About Ilga Leja
Ilga Leja is a knitwear designer and textile artist based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Her website is ilgaleja.com.
Her knitting patterns bring together stitch pattern, colour, texture, and shaping in uniquely imagined garments that challenge and engage the knitter. Often inspired by images from nature and the environment, her work explores the possibilities within the knitting universe. She then translates them so that other knitters can learn from her experiments. Knitters around the world have worked her signature designs, often within knitting circles, and have shared their pieces widely.
Ilga collaborates regularly with other designers and textile artists to create work for exhibit and for special purposes such as the Shannex Retirement complexes. She often uses yarn from local businesses such as Fleece Artist and Hand Maiden Fine Yarn in an effort to remain Canadian-focussed and locally-sourced as much as possible.
The first month of the new season is already gone. It certainly started off on a good note for Elena Fort – she won the door prize.
This month, we have another fabulous prize on deck! We're yarn lovers, and as such, another skein of yarn never goes amiss! This one is sure to be a winner, and it's Canadian! We have a lovely skein of Riverside Studio, 'Super Sock', hand-dyed yarn, 440 yards, or 402 meters, colour 'The Deep'. This is a beautiful colour, and will knit, or crochet, into a gorgeous project!
If you would like to have a chance to win this gorgeous yarn, simply be a member and attend the Zoom meeting. Hopefully, the number selected by the Random Generator will be yours!
See you October 12th!
Your Membership team,
Rosiel and Eileen
