The Kitchener-Waterloo Knitters' Guild

Upcoming Speakers

Our programming committee, headed by Lynne Sosnowski, is excited to announce that the following speakers will give presentations to the Guild this year.

  • January 12th, 2009 - Now, Where Was I? At our January meeting, we welcome Kate Atherley, to help us learn how to read our knitting if we've left no trail of breadcrumbs to follow, and some strategies to take next time, to make the return to a project a little less of a guessing game. Kate is a popular teacher, designer, and general knitter-about-town. She teaches regularly at a number of shops in the Toronto area, including Lettuce Knit and The Purple Purl, and also at the DKC's Winter Workshops and Knitter's Frolic, and the Creativ Festival. She has a strong technical bent - she's Knitty's Technical Editor for Socks, and she puts her University of Waterloo Math degree to work as often as possible in her designs and teaching; she loves challenging work, particularly lace and socks. Kate's most recent design, the Vampire Boyfriend Sock published on Knitty, caused a minor sensation. You can find her and her designs at www.wisehildaknits.com

Bring some pin money to the meeting, as Kate will be bringing some of her lovely patterns to sell.

  • November 10th, 2009 - Pattern and Shape: Join us for our November meeting, and you'll be treated to hearing Laura Chau, the designer behind Cosmicpluto Knits!, speak on issues of designing shaped knitting, and the kinds of effects that are made by different pattern choices. Laura is the author of Teach Yourself Visually Sock Knitting, and is also a knitting teacher, spinner, yarn dyer and maker of beautiful patterns.

In the past, the Kitchener-Waterloo Knitters' Guild has been proud to have presented, among others, the following guest speakers.
