Last Tuesday, the Guild started its 25th year. The silver anniversary year will be about “Colour in Knitting”, we will learn about how dyers work with and create colour, how to combine colours and use them to their best effect in knitting projects, and a variety of colourwork knitting techniques. To start this year off, Buffy Taylor of Shelridge Farm spoke to us on “Colour in Knitting – A Dyers Perspective”. Buffy talked about mixing and combining colours, how to get shades and tints of a hue, the effects of dyeing different yarn compositions. and some lovely examples of overdyeing. Buffy had great advice on using handpaints in knitware to the best advantage.
On Saturday Sept 11, the Guild held its annual Knitters Fair at Bingemans. We had over 70 vendors showcasing some beautiful yarns, rovings, tools and accessories. I haven’t got the official tally yet on how many people attended, but the rumour mill has the count over 2000 people. We conducted surveys of the vendors and the Fair attendees to find out their feelings on what the Fair is offering. As I was at the table collecting surveys I was able to see lots of lovely purchases walk by the table. I did manage to leave the table and making some purchases of my own and also to take some pictures of some of the offerings. I wanted to take some pictures Friday nights as well while vendors were setting up, but failed to check the batteries in my camera first. If you couldn’t make it to the Fair please be sure to mark the calendar for next year’s fair – September 10 – that is 9/10/11. If you have pictures of the Fair – or of any Guild meeting please add them to our Flickr group.
Happy Knitting and I hope you enjoy the Silver Anniversary of the KW Knitters Guild,
